“And It’s Beautiful” is the first single from the new Crash Test Dummies CD Oooh La-La!. The song not only marks the re-emergence of the band after a hiatus of six years, but also effectively marks the first time that lead singer/songwriter Brad Roberts has ever written an out and out love song. “I’ve gone out of my way to not write love songs,” explains Roberts. “I made an exception at this point in my life.” People close to Roberts indeed may have done a double take upon hearing “And It’s Beautiful.” “My backup singer Ellen [Reid – long time member of the band] was shocked when she saw the lyrics. She said ‘What happened to Brad? Is he on ecstasy or something? He’s never written a happy song in his life!'” Credit may partly go to Roberts’ happy marriage, and credit may partly go to his producer and songwriting partner Stewart Lerman, but the result is a truly beautiful, guileless Crash Test Dummies song from a writer who has more than once approached the world with a somewhat skeptical eye.
